Without relief, the Little Sisters face millions of dollars in IRS fines because they cannot comply with the government's mandate that they give their employees free access to contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs. The Little Sisters are joined by their religious health benefits providers, Christian Brothers Services and Christian Brothers Employee Benefits Trust, and a class of other religious organizations facing similar fines, in the first class action lawsuit against the Mandate.

Archbishop Chaput: Pope Francis and 'The Interview'
By Archbishop Charles Chaput | September 27, 2013

The modern heart can only be won back by a radical witness of Christian discipleship - a renewed kind of shared community life obedient to God's Commandments, but also on fire with the Beatitudes lived more personally and joyfully by all of us.

FRIDAY HOMILY: Rejecting Christian Atheism
By Fr. Randy Sly | September 27, 2013

How easy it is to attend Mass weekly, have our kids in CCD, render some service in the parish and yet live out most of our daily life as if Christ didn't even exist. Our Christian faith doesn't form the basic essence out of which we define who we are. We simply put on our faith as our "Sunday clothes," which can go back in the closet when not in use.

The most painful part of the month long trial for my wife and me was seeing Tom's friends abandon him. Except for one sitting Congressman and one former Congressman, none of the scores of men and women whom he helped get elected during his 21 years in Congress, showed up for the trial. In fact, Tom and Christine basically went through this valley alone. Yet I never heard one word of disappointment from Tom DeLay regarding the failure of his political friends to stand by him. For Tom DeLay, Jesus was enough. He never failed to tell reporters during the trial that his confidence was in Jesus.

There is No Such Thing as a Thankful Atheist
By Andrew M. Greenwell, Esq. | September 27, 2013

Until the scientist learns to give thanks, he will never get to the answer of contingent existence.
To confront the reality of our contingent existence means--if we are to use our highest form of thought--that we give thanks, that we be grateful. And this, ultimately, yields to faith, what G. K. Chesterton called "faith in receptiveness," a faith in receptiveness which gives rise to a receptiveness to faith.

Learning to See the Lord With the Eyes of Living Faith
By Deacon Keith Fournier | September 27, 2013

Jesus wants you and me to see Him. He is not hidden. He is seen by those who have eyes which are opened by living faith. He is showing Himself all around us. He has taken up residence within us. He is revealed to us in the face of our neighbor and, in a special way, in the face of the poor. He is revealed in His living word and communicates His divine life to us through the Sacraments. We are invited today to be the people who always want to see Jesus. That desire should draw us ever more deeply into a life of prayer and communion. It is there, in the intimacy fueled by living faith, that we receive the light we need to see the Lord.

In his recent interview, he made it clear that the Church should put opposition to abortion \"in context.\" This is neither new nor unwelcome. The Pope wants to see the renunciation of abortion put in the context of mercy toward the mother, and this is consistent with the pro-life movement\'s emphasis on \"loving them both.\" In fact, in my personal conversations with the Pope, he particularly urged me to go forward with the work of Rachel\'s Vineyard, the largest ministry in the world for healing after abortion. He called it an \"excellent work.\"

The Friends of Job Were Wrong: Facing Pain, Struggle and Betrayal
By Deacon Keith Fournier | September 27, 2013

Job was right. In fact, he was living in the heart of God's will. When Job was stripped of what his fairweather friends believed were the -proofs- of Gods favor, he found the greatest treasure of all, the beautiful poverty of purified Love. He found the richness reserved for those who love God for God's sake. Jobs fairweather friends told him that his loss and difficulties were his fault, but Job knew better. In his unwavering hope in God's love and mercy we find the way of purified, living faith.
