By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | September 10, 2013

Revolution brewing in China! Why this will astound you or depress you
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | September 10, 2013

A conservative Irish philosopher is all the rage in China's academic circles. The unlikely favor shines of philosopher Edmund Burke as the once revolutionary government of China becomes the establishment.

The inhumane treatment of the victims of abortion is not something that just happened in the past. Right now in Philadelphia, the Medical Examiner's office is refusing to allow a proper burial for babies killed - many outside the womb - by the now-imprisoned abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Priests for Life has named these babies and has requested permission to bury them, but the Medical Examiner insists the babies will be cremated, privately and unmourned

TUESDAY HOMILY: Firm in the Faith
By Fr. Roger J. Landry | September 10, 2013

The whole purpose of the Year of Faith is to facilitate the growth of Catholics in the faith, to strengthen our personal, total entrustment to God and because of that trust, our knowledge and confidence in what he continues to teach and do. In the words of St. Paul in his Letter to the Church in Colossae, which is the first reading at Mass today, the Year of Faith is meant to help us to become "firm in faith" precisely because we're "planted and built up in Jesus Christ."

A Bouquet of Dandelions:The Cross Makes All Things New
By Tara K. E. Brelinsky (News Consortium) Zebulon, NC | September 10, 2013

From planting hardy grass seed and fertilizing to watering then mowing and edging, diligent home owners invest hard-earned money and valuable time into manicuring their plots of earth. Neighborhood dwellers compete to keep up appearances when it comes to their square of land. Who doesn't want the coveted "Yard of the Month" sign anchored in their front yard for all to see and envy? So often we invest our time and energy into creating our own vision of beauty and perfection. Our homes and our lifestyle can mirror our image of reality, but sometimes it is really a vision based on worldly relativism rather than on Christ's example.

The Way of Discipleship: Prayer Changes People and People Change Things
By Deacon Keith Fournier | September 11, 2013

Sometimes, prayer does indeed change the circumstances. Sometimes it is the circumstances that change us! The old bumper sticker Prayer Changes Things is limited in its ability to grasp this deeper aspect of Christian living. So, I offer a revision, Prayer changes people and people change things. The lesson St Paul gave to the early Christians in Greece about being shipwrecked and experiencing daily struggles is critical for us to hear in our own age. God is searching for men and women who will surrender their lives in love to Him, no matter what happens in their lives.Men and women who learn to see the apparent collapse around them as birthpangs of a Loving Plan to be revealed.

By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | September 9, 2013

It's time to make room in our prayers for the Christian residents of Maaloula in Syria: Islamist rebels of the al-Nusra Front have seized control of the town this weekend. The al Qaeda-linked rebel group has reportedly seized control of the historic Christian town of Maaloula from regime forces.

Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, 'This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.' Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple. (Jesus)

Reflecting on the Attributes of God
By Andrew M. Greenwell, Esq. | September 9, 2013

God, the Church teaches, has certain attributes which He must be held to have. All these attributes must be held of God, and the denial of any one attribute is really nothing but a partial atheism, as that attribute we deny of God becomes an area of godlessness or atheism pro tanto. Denying any attribute of God lands us in a heresy about God, or into a form of idolatry, even into an inchoate atheism since a God that is deprived of any one of his attributes is no longer Almighty God, but something less than Almighty God. The God becomes a god, which means he is not God.
