THURSDAY HOMILY: Clothe Yourselves in Virtue and Live in Beatitude
By Deacon Keith Fournier | September 12, 2013

There is a call to happiness planted within every human person as a seed. Beatitude or happiness finds its perfect expression in the teaching of Jesus Christ in the Sermon on the Mount. It was lived and demonstrated in His Sacred humanity, which is a model for all human beings. It is meant to be replicated in the life of each man and women who is baptized into His Church and learns to clothe themselves in virtue and live in beatitude, beginning even now.

Coptic Christians in Egyptian Village Forced to Pay Jizya Tax
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | September 12, 2013

Egypt's Christian Copt community has long been persecuted, with random violence carried out against their churches and businesses perpetrated by Islamist extremists. Now, in the remote village of Dalga, Coptic Christians are ordered to pay a special tax, a Jizya tax. Those who are unable to pay find themselves vulnerable to attack.

Those who love the poor - like Jesus loved the poor- are an instruction manual for the rest of us. They are a sign of the kingdom, making it present in their wake. We have such a man in this Pope named Francis. He also recognizes that poverty is more than a lack of material goods. It knows many faces and the face of Christ is revealed in them all. Pope Francis visited Jesus on Tuesday because he knows that Jesus is identified with refugees. (Matt. 25) He challenges us all to love Jesus in the poor. An endless stream of talking heads filled the airwaves speculating as to who did what and why - to bring about the surprising situation no-one had predicted. They questioned the intentions of Russia in brokering a diplomatic solution. They offered unsubstantiated drivel as a substitute for insight. In effect, they fanned the flames of fear and furthered the corrosive cynicism of the age. Through it all, no-one on any media venue zeroed in on what is truly bringing about such a dramatic and surprising turn of events in the Syrian crisis. Here it is, plain and simple. Prayer and fasting is doing what political machinations are incapable of doing. Papal leadership accomplished what political leadership could not.

WEDNESDAY HOMILY: Eternal Worship of God or of Thyself?
By Fr Samuel Medley, SOLT | September 11, 2013

People will flock in droves to see a celebrity yet will not visit the most important Person, the Eucharistic Lord, in the Church. They will sit for hours at a football game but complain if Mass is an hour. They will hush in reverent silence on the set of television yet remain chatting before the Holy of holies. They remain focussed for hours before a computer but are easily distracted before God. They will gaze into a friends face for hours in deep conversation but will not speak in prayer to the One worthy of true friendship. They love themselves more than God when this life is over I beg and pray that they will not be cursed with eternal worship of themselves instead of blessed praise of the One who anxiously waited to bless them while on earth.

Reflecting on September 11: Time to Set Freedom Free
By Deacon Keith Fournier | September 11, 2013

We were inspired by the courageous response of our fellow countrymen and women. Every year since September 11, 2001, we are reminded once again of who we can be as a good and free people. The heroes of Ground Zero were lights in an age of hungry darkness. That darkness still threatens. On the twelth anniversary of September 11th America should reflect on who are and act carefully as we choose who we will become. On the twelth anniversary of Septemeber 11, it is time to set freedom free.

Revolution brewing in China! Why this will astound you or depress you
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | September 10, 2013

A conservative Irish philosopher is all the rage in China's academic circles. The unlikely favor shines of philosopher Edmund Burke as the once revolutionary government of China becomes the establishment.

The inhumane treatment of the victims of abortion is not something that just happened in the past. Right now in Philadelphia, the Medical Examiner's office is refusing to allow a proper burial for babies killed - many outside the womb - by the now-imprisoned abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Priests for Life has named these babies and has requested permission to bury them, but the Medical Examiner insists the babies will be cremated, privately and unmourned
