A buzz fills the air with the smell of sawdust. Fingers trace the grooves in the casket lids, and the wood feels smooth beneath hands calloused from labor, yet gentle from prayer. The clang from the Abbey's bell tower reverberates throughout the grounds and into our workshop. There is a certain intimacy in working with wood, and as we reflect on our work, the din disappears into the background, our prayer life flowing into our work life. Trappist Caskets are handcrafted by the monks of New Melleray Abbey, mainly from wood sustainably harvested from our own 1200-acre forest. Along with prayer and study, our casket ministry is an extension of our sacred work. We ship to families all over the country in their time of need, bringing them old-world craftsmanship and sensible prices on fine wooden caskets. We make a range of simple yet beautiful expertly crafted caskets in sustainable pine, oak and walnut: Each wooden casket is unique and personally blessed by a monk-craftsman: |
