Torture remains rampant in sub-Saharan Africa, Amnesty International declares
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | May 13, 2014

Life goes on in sub-Saharan Africa - as it would during medieval times. The torture of prisoners in these countries continue to be applied with impunity. Such atrocities as fingernail yanking, rape and electrical shocks continue to be employed there against men, women and children - with impunity, according to Amnesty International.

On July 26, 2000 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued The Message of Fatima
It should be read by anyone who seeks to understand the approach that the Church, as mother and teacher, takes to private revelation. In that document the Congregation specifically addressed what is referred to as the Third Secret of Fatima. It was explained to Saint John Paul II by Sr. Lucia, one of the visionaries. Few messages have ever received as much interest as this third secret, at least in some in contemporary Catholic circles. The interest has sometimes led to excessive curiosity and, in some circles, some of the reaction has smacked of a contemporary form of Gnosticism. The core of the message of Fatima, when properly understood and received, is a call to genuine conversion to Jesus Christ. It is a little gospel. The children were told by Mary, the Mother of God, to tell all of us to repent from sin, do penance, turn back to Jesus Christ.

Pope Francis: The Holy Spirit Guides the Church
By Pope Francis | May 13, 2014

The Holy Spirit is the living presence of God in the Church. He keeps the Church going, keeps the Church moving forward. More and more, beyond the limits, onwards. The Holy Spirit with His gifts guides the Church. You cannot understand the Church of Jesus without this Paraclete, whom the Lord sends us for this very reason. And He makes unthinkable choices, but unimaginable!

It has been a Christian world-view and anthropology that have helped to advance true human liberation. It will again be the Church that leads the world to a future of real progress. She is its champion. We do not need a \"conservative\" revolution. We need a Christian revolution. With all of this in mind, I once again contend with Sean Hannity.I respect Sean Hannity. Especially, in the arid wasteland of the propaganda media, I am glad there is a Fox News, as well as what is called conservative talk radio. However, I am first, last and all in between, a Catholic Christian.

Hispanics will be challenged to live the Catholic faith for conviction and not remain cultural Catholics. Cultural Catholics will not survive in America. These are the ones who are leaving. Parishes will be challenged in helping Hispanics live the Catholic faith for conviction. Parishes that provide a vibrant and dynamic liturgical life will help Hispanics grow in their personal relationship with Jesus. Parishes that provide formation and community will be able to help Hispanics remain in the Catholic Church. Priests will need to get out of the office and the rectory and be with the people. Youth ministry is not easy, but it is where we need to be.- Fr. James Farfaglia

Starving and destitute, Kianna meets a very special 'friend' - Part II
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | May 4, 2014

Kianna made her way to the marketplace, walking unpaved, dirt roads. It would be here she would spend the day panhandling for coins in order to buy food for her brothers and ailing mother. She had taken to stealing bits of food from stalls recently, but she knew that this was wrong. If she was to be caught, angry shopkeepers would beat her as an example to all the other street urchins. Kianna reached the main part of the street, and saw lots of familiar faces - there were untold other children just like her, all vying for the same limited amount of money doled out by shoppers.

GHASTLY: Skinned, naked statue of Virgin Mary stuns Long Island neighbors
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | May 8, 2014

A Statue of the Virgin Mary in Long Island is seemingly more appropriate for a Chamber of Horrors. This ghastly 33-foot-tall bronze statue depicts a walking woman whose skin has been ripped away from the right side of her body, exposing skull, muscles and her fetus. On private property, the owner has since draped the statue with a black tarp.
