Millions of Catholics IGNORE Pope Francis' call to do this one thing
By Catholic Online (NEWS CONSORTIUM) | March 21, 2014

Did you get the message? Pope Francis is tasking Catholics with the mission of ending world hunger by 2025 via a sustained campaign of 'Prayer and Action.' Unfortunately, there are a lot of Catholics who haven't yet answered the call.

Can you imagine the possibilities if a man of the immense talent of Bill Gates, with his extraordinary influence on so many fronts, had a life changing encounter with the Risen Lord Jesus Christ? Grace perfects or completes nature, to quote the angelic doctor Thomas Aquinas. Imagine what this man could do after being captured by Jesus Christ. Bill Gates can have the same kind of encounter that brought the Apostle Paul, and countless other leaders through the ages, to that kind of transformation in Christ!

When Catholics Started to Lose Their Cultural Clout
By Deal W. Hudson | March 20, 2014

he sophistication seen in the original Code written by a Chicago Jesuit, Rev. Daniel Lord, SJ, had been turned into a fear-driven attempt of the Legion to act as parents looking out for a nation of impressionable children. In doing so, the Legion's condemnations showed no appreciation of, or respect for, film as an art form, in the manner contained in Rev. Lord's original Code. The moral of the story? Catholics lose cultural influence when they act like parental arbiters of public taste, especially when they refuse to acknowledge excellence in works of art they find somehow objectionable or dangerous.

Sensing Jesus
By Tara K. E. Brelinsky | March 20, 2014

Without a direct word spoken to me, my senses identified the Lord. It didn't require an overt action or conversation to raise my awareness. So, too, it can be with us when we testify to our beliefs. When those around us hear our choice of words, watch our actions or study our demeanor they will form an opinion. If we speak with charity, move with tender purpose and love unconditionally they will sense the presence of Jesus.

Exodus II? Christian Persecution in the Middle East
By Ken Blackwell and Bob Morrison | March 20, 2014

The former President of Lebanon, Amine Gemayel, is a Maronite Christian. He recently warned of "an exodus approaching biblical proportions." Gemayel told a gathering in Zurich of Christian Solidarity International (CSI) and other human rights activists that the current wave of church burnings, murders, and riots against Christians in the Mideast is the work of radical Islamists. The former Lebanese leader's own brother had been assassinated in Beirut by these same jihadists.

Catholics and Movie Culture
By Deal W. Hudson | March 19, 2014

The Legion's original pledge condemned "vile and unwholesome moving pictures" and called upon its members to "unite with all who protest against them as a grave menace to youth, to home life, to country and to religion." The Legion's gradual slide into moralistic irrelevance is best exemplified by the four films the Legion condemned in 1960, all now considered classics: Breathless, Never on Sunday, Spartacus, and Psycho. I imagine Rev. Daniel Lord, S.J., never thought his Code would be used to bash serious works in the art form called cinema.

He still gives His message and His mission to men who, like Joseph, cultivate ears to hear and then choose to exercise authentic manly virtue and act out of courage. He still invites men to turn the ordinary into extraordinary through cooperation and participation in God\'s plan. He is looking for a few good men like Joseph who will work in the workshop of the world that he created in order to recreate it anew in His Son. In this age with few real heroes, men should rediscover this true hero, this man\'s man named Joseph. Then, we need to follow his example by courageously, humbly and faithfully loving Jesus Christ. We need to learn to give our \"Yes\" to the God whose love always invites participation.

A Year Later: Who Is Pope Francis?
By Deal W. Hudson | March 19, 2014

Just who is the new pontiff, Pope Francis, after his first year in office? He's a Catholic, first of all, which has come as a surprise to much of the secular media. He's neither a man of the left or the right and doesn't seem to look at the Church through that polarizing lens. Pope Francis is attempting a paradigm shift in the Church, one that moves everything towards evangelization, whether it's theology, catechetics, apologetics, homiletics, or liturgy.
